The other day I was singing “Part of your World” from The Little Mermaid, but was changing some of the words to match up with the biology equipment I was using and organisms I was studying. I didn’t get very far. My husband Zach thought we should run with this idea, and later in the day he sent me the below lyrics. He is truly the one for me.

So with no further adieu, I present to you Zach Weinersmith’s Adaptation of The Little Mermaid’s “Part of your World”, as adapted for his gross biologist wife:

Part of that World

Look at this bug

Isn’t it dead?

Wouldn’t you find trematodes in its head?

Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl

The girl who’ll squash every braaaaaaain.

Look at this fish

Treasures untold

How many oocysts can one brain case hold?

I’m pretty sure Ed Yong thinks

This girl will squash every braaaaaaain.

I’ve got slime molds and fishheads aplenty

I’ve got wasp galls and roadkill galore.

(You want cercariae?

I’ve got eight-hundred-fifty-nine-thousand-four-hundred-twenty)

But who cares?

No big deal

I want n= mooooooore

I want to be where ichneumids are

I want to see

See ‘em ovipositin’.

Hatchin’ and drinkin’ that spider’s

(Whaddya call it?) Hemolyyyyyymph.

Stayin’ at home you don’t get too far,

But formatting’s required for publication.

Fixing your margins and using

(What’s that word they like?) counterintuitiiiiiiive

Where the fish play

Where the birds coo

I’ll take a bucket of MS Two-Two-Twoooooooo!

I.A.C.U.C.

Let’s me kill humanely–

Part of that woooooorld

What would I give

If I could live

Outta this meeting?

What would I donate

If someone’d collate

This documentation.

Bet there’s field stations

Or nice foundations

Where no application’s ever needed!

Data pursuers

Sick of reviewers.

Reconsidering vocations!

Aaaaaaaand I’m ready to know what the creatures know

Open a thorax

And get some answers

Which preservative, FAA or

(What’s the word?) isofluraaaaaane

Can I harvest their brain?

Wouldn’t I love

To euthanize these guys up above!

To sustainably

Place in captivity

Part of that woooooorld.
